Free Kit for New Parents

The California Children and Families Commission launched a statewide project designed to offer guidance to all new and expecting parents - the Kit For New Parents. The Kit, which is provided in English, Spanish and Asian language versions, contains various educational materials to help provide guidance to new and expectant parents.

In order to reach as many new families as possible, local Commissions have taken the lead in distributing the Kit. First 5 Kern is asking providers who work with expectant or new parents to become Provider Partners. Our partners will be given free Kits for their clients and patients. In exchange, partners are asked to provide education relating to the contents of the Kit to attend some meetings related to Kit usage.

The Kit contains a guide entitled, "Advice for New Parents", covering various questions relating to all ages up to five, a resource guide, a CD covering various topics, and even a new book for the baby and several brochures! It provides a wide range of information to help all parents and caregivers, answer questions about caring for a child. Questions such as: How much food should I give my baby? How do I childproof my home? What should I look for in child care? How much television should my child watch? Why does my baby cry? Why set limits for my child?

If your organization is interested in becoming an approved Provider Partner, you may download a copy of the application at the link below, complete it and return it to First 5 Kern, Attn: Sharon Powell by mail or fax.

If you are an individual looking for a single Kit for personal use, please call the California Children and Families Commission at (800) KIDS-025 (English and Asian languages) or (800) 5-0-NIÑOS (Spanish) and a Kit will be sent directly to your home.

If you have any questions regarding distribution, please contact Sharon Powell at First 5 Kern at (661) 328-7039 or send an email to spowell@kccfc.org for more info.
