First 5 Kern conducts its work by partnering with existing local children and family service providers. Its mission is to fund existing and new community activities and services that nurture and support children through the first five years of life and their families. Our mission is focused on optimizing early brain development and the impact the child's emotional, physical and intellectual environment has on brain development. First 5 Kern's three focus areas are:

• Health and Wellness 
• Early Child Care and Education
• Parent Education and Support Services

Each of the funded programs also incorporate an additional focus area,

The work of First 5 Kern's funded partners are fully evaluated to ensure they are making a difference in the lives of children they serve.
